The Face We’ve Always Yearned to See…

Revelation 22:3-4: “The throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve him. They shall see his face”.

Recently I was at Logan Airport in Boston, awaiting my Swiss family’s plane to arrive.  It was just before the July 4th holiday, and so the airport was very busy, very loud, and very crowded.

As the doors of the international terminal opened again and again, I saw people of just about every size, shape, and skin color, streaming out as the various planes emptied.

Standing amidst the swarms of people waiting for their loved ones, I watched  sweet reunions happening all around me.  I heard the exclamations of recognition in many languages.  I watched little ones run into the open, outstretched arms of parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles awaiting them.  I saw the fond embraces, the ruffling of the hair of a teenager suddenly grown tall and lanky since the last visit.  It all warmed my heart and made me smile.

I remembered the promise: that someday we may see that Face which we have always deep-down yearned to see; that One for whom we were created, to love and enjoy him for eternity.

That joyous meeting finally and forever will fill the place in our hearts which we have – in vain – tried to satisfy with lesser things.  We’re like those awaiting their loved ones at the airport searching every face until – at last! – we see our Savior and Redeemer who shows us the face of his Father and ours, the Father who loved us into being and rejoices in our forever homecoming.

  1. Chris,

What a beautiful picture of what we have to look forward to in eternity! As you watched those folks running into the embrace of those family and friends who were waiting for them, they were not folks that you personally knew or could identify by name. However, our Heavenly Father knows our names and we will come to know all the saints personally from every tribe, tongue, and nation when we join together in His presence.
