Every morning when I first open my eyes, I pray this prayer:
“Lord, you ask only for my heart, and this I most willingly offer to you. I give you my body with its senses; my soul with all its powers: my memory, that it may be always recollected to You; my intellect, that it may be ever enlightened by your truth; my will, that it may be conformable to yours, and ever burn with love for You.
Take me entirely into your hands, with all that I am and all that I have. Let nothing henceforth in life or death ever separate me from You.” Amen
I don’t know where I originally read this prayer, and I have been unable to trace its source. But I committed it to memory and have so practiced praying it upon awakening that it’s pretty automatic. It’s a “morning offering”, an intentional giving of my self and my day to the God who’s given me life.
There’s a simpler morning prayer that I came up with years ago that I used to pray. It’s shorter and one I began praying long before I became Catholic, before I ever even heard of something called “a morning offering”. For what it’s worth, here it is:
Lord, help me to receive my life this day as from Your Hands: moment by moment, with gratitude and trust. Amen.
Try finding something that suits you, and practice praying it every morning. It can set your mind and your day on the right track.

Hi Chris,
Yes, starting off giving thanks to God every morning before we do anything else is a great spiritual discipline. I always give thanks to the Lord for waking me up for another day and what we will be doing together. I also sometimes give Him thanks for allowing those who don’t know Him to have another opportunity to hear the gospel as God does not desire that any perish but all come to eternal life. (2 Peter 3:9) I believe we need to equally give thanks as we are retiring for the night, remembering how He met us throughout the day in various situations and circumstances.
