The God of the Impossible…

“Is anything too hard for the LORD…?” (Genesis 18:14, RSV).

Yesterday at Mass, I was praying about something which had been heavy on my heart for several months. Because it was a troubling situation about which I was helpless to do anything, I was feeling particularly discouraged.

I recalled the verse above and several others lodged in my memory bank (Jeremiah 32:27, Matthew 19:26 and Luke 1:37) in an attempt to remind myself of God’s sovereignty and power. And as I sat there praying, I “heard” the voice of the Holy Spirit in my mind clearly saying, “I specialize in the impossible.”

This morning, I got word that the precise thing I had been praying for had finally happened! What a joy and thanksgiving arose in me! How easy it is at times for me to forget that God IS God; He knows and sees what He is always doing, even and especially when I am blind to it.

Trusting him – especially when the answer doesn’t come in my preferred time frame – is a way for me to demonstrate my love for him and my firm belief in his goodness.

Our God does “specialize in the impossible!”.

I must ask for persevering faith to believe him and take him at his Word, especially when I am tempted to discouragement.
